A Message from the Missionary

Help from the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio

Dr. Bruce Smith shared at the Annual Meeting that there is a Mapping Center for Evangelism available for every church. This information gives the information for any household in a given area. Many uses for this information. For instance, if your church wanted to just visit homes with children and invite them to VBS. For more information contact Dr. Smith at brucesmith@scbo.org

Church Planting Prayer Initiative Please sign up

We realize that nothing of eternal significance happens apart from prayer. God in His sovereignty has chosen to act in response to the prayers of His people, and He has called us to be a people who seek His face. We also recognize that the communities in the area in which we live are filled with people who do not yet know the Lordmany of these communities do not even have a gospel teaching Baptist Church. Without the planting of new churches in these areas, many people are lost to an eternity without Christ. In fact, within our area we only have 1 SBC church for every 28,000 people. The harvest is many, but the workers are few. Therefore, we must seek the Lord of the Harvest and ask Him to raise up workerschurch planterswho will establish new churches in these unreached areas. As a part of our work in church planting, I would ask that every church determine to adopt one of these unreached communities in prayer that the Lord would start a church in that specific area. As part of this prayer initiative, each church will be provided with a prayer guide for their specific community to help with communicating specific prayer needs and demographic information. Please join us by taking part in this initiative through your local church and leading them to pray for those who so desperately need to see a church planted in their area.

Please take the time to discuss this with your church, and once you have determined which community your church will adopt in prayer, let us know. This is an initiative that we are hoping each of our churches will feel led to participate in.

If your church has selected a community to pray for, please let myself or Dr. Bannister know so that we can get your church some prayer guides to help in praying for specific needs in that community.

From Pastor David Lettau, Church Strengthening Team Leader:

We, of the Church Strengthening Team, are here for “our name’s purpose:” To assist with God’s help to the churches in the Steel Valley Baptist Association. We are currently starting a dialogue with pastors and church leaders to open communication of individual needs. We hope to establish a list to publish needs and help opportunities in the Communicator. In doing so, we can assist each other as well as become a clearing house of helps as we learn more of State and National (SBC) services to help local churches.

Also, we are discussing organizing clusters within the association so that churches can assist each other more closely and be more effective in their communities as they work together on common efforts to the furtherance of the Gospel as well as letting the communities know who we are, and where we are, as we share who Jesus is. There are exciting things ahead; and we are open for suggestions.

Thank you in Jesus Name,
